Evening Skin Longevity Routine

Double cleanse, retinol, lipids on top.

Who it's for

For skin ready to do the rebuilding half. This is the routine with the retinoid in it, and it is built so the retinoid is survivable: two gentle cleansers, a hydration step before the active, and lipids over the top every single night.

Hero ingredients

One active, and everything that makes it tolerable

The retinoid is the only thing here trying to change anything. The other four steps exist so it can keep working — which, with retinoids, is the whole game.

01 · 04
Panthenol

A lightweight moisturizing ingredient that pulls water into the skin and holds it there, while also soothing irritation and supporting the skin's natural repair process. Compatible with virtually every other skincare ingredient and suitable for all skin types. Effective from 1%, with most products using 1–5% for hydration and barrier repair benefits.

Steps 02
02 · 04
Hyaluronic Acid

A naturally occurring hydrator found in skin, also called sodium hyaluronate in its cosmetic form. It pulls moisture from the air and the deeper layers of your skin to the surface — able to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Look for 0.1–2% on the label, apply to damp skin, and follow with a moisturizer to keep that hydration from evaporating.

Steps 03
03 · 04
Retinol

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A that converts into retinoic acid in the skin to regulate cell turnover, collagen synthesis, and melanin production. The result is faster shedding of dead skin cells, reduced fine lines, and more even tone over time. Effective concentrations range from 0.025% for beginners to 0.5–1% for experienced users — higher isn’t always better, and irritation increases sharply above 1%.

Steps 04
04 · 04
Ceramides

Ceramides are fatty molecules naturally found in the outermost layer of skin. They make up about 50% of the skin barrier, holding skin cells together and preventing water loss. They reinforce a weakened barrier, calm irritation, and lock in hydration.

The ritual of care

5 steps, in order

01Oil Cleanser

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil

Centella Asiatica
Why this one

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil — centella asiatica in a light ester-oil base with jojoba and squalane. It dissolves sunscreen and sebum on contact and rinses without stripping, which matters more on a retinoid night than on any other. Perfect as a first cleanse that leaves the barrier intact for what follows.

How to layer

Three or four pumps onto dry skin with dry hands. A minute of massage over the areas you applied sunscreen, then emulsify with water and rinse. Step 2 follows immediately.

02Water-based Cleanser

PURITO Mighty Bamboo Panthenol Cleanser

Panthenol
Why this one

PURITO Mighty Bamboo Panthenol Cleanser — panthenol and allantoin in a bamboo-water base. Neither is doing the cleaning, which is the point: it removes what the oil left without leaving skin alkaline for the next hour. On a night when a retinoid is going on, that alkaline window is the difference between tolerable and stinging.

How to layer

A small amount lathered in wet hands before it touches the face. Lukewarm water, twenty seconds, no washcloth. Pat but do not dry — step 3 goes on damp.

03Toner

MEDIHEAL Watermide Moisture Pad

Sodium Hyaluronate
Why this one

MEDIHEAL Watermide Moisture Pad — ten forms of hyaluronic acid with beta-glucan and madecassoside. This is the buffer step: hydrated skin tolerates a retinoid measurably better than dry skin, and the madecassoside is there for the nights it still complains. Not a moisturiser — it hydrates, it does not seal.

How to layer

One pad swept over the face, or press the essence in with your palms. Do not let it dry fully. If your skin is new to retinoids, this is the step to double up on.

04Treatment

Isntree Hyper Retinol EX 1.0 Serum

Retinol 0.1%
Why this one

Isntree Hyper Retinol EX 1.0 Serum — 0.1% retinol, 0.3% retinyl palmitate and 0.6% bakuchiol, stabilised in cyclodextrin and cushioned with five ceramides. Three retinoid forms at different strengths means the conversion happens gradually rather than all at once, which is what makes it survivable for anyone who has bounced off pure retinol before. Perfect as an entry point, not a graduation.

How to layer

A pea-sized amount on dry skin, avoiding the immediate eye area. Twice a week to start, building up over a month or two — not faster. Step 5 goes on top, always.

05Moisturizer

Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream

Ceramide NP
Why this one

Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream — Ceramide NP with cholesterol and free fatty acids. A retinoid works by accelerating turnover, and turnover costs the barrier lipids; replacing them the same night is what breaks the peel-and-quit cycle most people hit around week three. Perfect as the step that decides whether you are still using the retinoid in three months.

How to layer

An almond-sized amount over everything, pressed not rubbed. On nights the retinoid feels like too much, apply this first and the serum on top — buffering costs a little potency and saves the routine.

Two questions. Then you'll know.

Your skin type, and what you are actually trying to fix — then the routine that fits, instead of the one that is trending.
